Thank you for taking the time to report this issue. I am closing this
issue for now as it clearly points out common network problems. Ssh
sessions often hang when using routers or network equipment which do not
respect idle connections and therefore need up to 30 seconds to come up
/ synch again. S
I have updated my Ubuntu to 8.10 version.
I have a one machine at work and I have to say that open ssh sometimes hang on
different hardware/connection. Especially when I change a window application to
another in local PC and come back to terminal (or putty).

bartekw - your latest update seems to suggest that it was just the
connection hanging, that it does eventually come back. It's been a
while since this was last updated, are you still experiencing issues?

OK, I made a few steps.
I saw that the keyboard "come back" after 25-35 sec. so the connection is
"hang". Note, that I can use the local connection (by the router Linksys from
my workstation @ server with ssh-server only or I can use a internet connection
by adress from no-ip.com. Both connectio

On no! I wrote an answer too quick! After few minutes in xterm I have this same
problem!!! No response of the keyboard :( Why it happens? I connect to my
second PC with the option
ssh mypc.hopto.org (from no-ip.com), maybe I do sth. wrong??

I did what You said. I installed mc, then I run it. I past some text from www
into gnome-terminal, then, when I wanted to close (F10) mc-my keyboard stops to
responde. The cursor was blinking when I was typing but without result on the

The following test will give useful information:
Can you run the program xterm (Press ALT+F2 and type in 'xterm').
This is a different terminal application. Please try your ssh with this
terminal. If the problem does not exist here, I can report this as a
gnome-terminal bug.

Applications->Accessories->Terminal)
Can you get keyboard output on any other application? Text Editor /
OpenOffice.org?
