I have Ubuntu 8.04 64bit on AMD 64X2 with the Nvidia 8800 GT (XFX) and
the Samsung SyncMaster 245bw.
When I first installed I loaded the proprietary Nvidia X.org drivers and
they worked flawlessly for all of 10ish reboots and then it stopped.
Randomly on the 10th reboot it started my machine in l
1. Since the NVIDIA driver is a kernel module it has to be rebuild for
each kernel which should use the driver.

That sounds like a good workaround(haven't tested it yet) but definitely
that NVIDIA beta driver needs to be added to the ubuntu repos since that
probably will cause future issues with kernel upgrades

169.12.
It does not work after installing the drivers, so, i looked at this post

I've just been told on another forum that the drivers ar not compatible
with the new version of the kernel. But nvidia seems to be develloping a

We can't modify the code of Nvidia but we can always adapt the rest of
the code to the Nvidia driver.
Anyway that's so much a shame 'cos the rest of hardy is just great.
I realy hope the repertories will be modified and we won't have tot wait
for another version.

I can confirm this.
The 'nv' driver can be used for most nvidia cards. But I can't get the glx
working with the 'nv' driver.
There are three flavours of the 'nvidia' driver, but I can't get them working
at all.
