I'm closing this bug because I can't reproduce it with the latest
development version of inkscape, so hopefully it is now fixed. If you
find that this bug still exists when you upgrade to the latest version

I tried following the steps in the description, using the development
release of inkscape 0.47 in karmic but I couldn't reproduce the bug.
Please could you try it for yourself with the latest version and let us
know if the same problem exists?
