Finally I was able to install 804.
It was a bank of memory.
I just tried to remove the 2nd GB and installed.
Tried to replace the 1st GB with the one taken out and crashed.
Funny thing is that a 10 hrs memtest 1.70 didn't find any problem in the memory.

I tried to boot from 804 GA CD...
It didn't progress to full boot but after a while it went to an initramfs
screen.
Really a problemfull machine :-(
Let me know how I could collect info on this second problem so that can be
traced back.

Since looks like a long process to fix this bug... can I try to reinstall from
scratch with GA CD code hoping it fixes the problem?
Or you'd need me to keep the pc like now for some time? How long?
