This doesn't sound like a kernel bug. It seems you have incorrect
permissions set. For now I'm converting this to a question in our
support tracker. Can you comment if this is still an issue with the
latest Jaunty release?

Well...As far as i understand, anything that uses Gnome's open/save,
firefox-mplayer...a lot of other things, but with somethings like amsn or qucs
( i think) they work just fine cause they have their own open/save dialog boxes.
