To me Synaptic works in Gnome but not in Kde 4.1 (from ppa repos), it
freezes in the end. I quit synaptic and the packages are correctly
installed.

It's not fixed in KDE 4.0.4 nor in KDE 4.1 beta 1. I can also confirm
that it only happens when running synaptic through kdesu (KDE4 version)
but not with gksudo.

Using kde 4.0.3, I can confirm this. But I think is related to synaptic +
kdesudo. I tried gksudo synaptic and it works just fine (i.e. synaptic didn't
froze).
I'll try upgrading to 4.0.4 to see if it's solved.

I can confirm this bug. Synaptic works fine on ubuntu, but hangs after
every install in kubuntu 8.04 'KDE 4 remix'. I guess it waits for the
end of some process but for some reason doesn't get informed when this
process ends.

I checked both Adept and apt-get through konsole on KDE4 and they worked
perfectly. I then tried Synaptic in 8.04 RC KDE3 and Synaptic worked.
So, it looks like it is a KDE4 problem.
