Ubuntu 8.10 uses cfengine 2.2.7, which still suffers from a serious bug:

I've been using the Ubuntu (jaunty) and Debian (lenny) builds of 2.2.8-1
on both Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 to avoid this.
It would be nice to get that 2.2.8-1 releas
This is fixed in cfengine 2.2.4, so if 8.10 has a cfengine version >=
2.2.4 it is fixed.
