Yes, everything else works fine - including X at full resolution.
The internal microphone does not get routed properly though.
Is there any way I can debug (step through) alsa (using ddd for
example?). I can compile it from source but not sure how I can proceed
to figure out what the i

Does Ubuntu 8.10 otherwise work fine on your VAIO NS? For example, when
you plug a headset into the headphone jack, are the speakers muted
appropriately? Does X run normally, at full resolution?

Having the same issue on my VAIO VGN-NS notebook.
Tried alsa 1.0.18 on Ubuntu 8.10
