Hmm, though http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=461956 says that dead keys don't work when using Unicode on the console. I'm not sure this is an intrinsic limitation - it might just be that ckbcomp isn't yet smart enough to work out which compose definitions to use. -- dead keys don'
