This has been fixed in Debian 2.1~rc8-1 release, might be a good idea to
sync ?

quite a few users: in case you would like to test OpenVPN with smart cards,
let me know, I'll send you a few cards that are well supported on Linux,
it's really a breeze now :-)

I fully agree. As far as I can see, there is no good reason why the
package should be compiled without support for this very useful option!
