The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
Upgrading the BIOS on the X61 is not a simple matter unless you have
got the docking station with a CD drive or windows on another partition.
It is not possible to directly update the BIOS using a USB CDROM or
floppy.

I find this statement quite frigh
Problem appears to be resolved with 2.6.24-16 after upgrading ThinkPad T60
to latest bios revision, as boot errors before dropping to initrams seemed
to indicate a PnP bios problem. Requires updating to latest Lenovo Update
software and downloading BIOS patch in Windows.
