I have the same behavior with a PowerShot A350: I can't see the camera
in Nautilus nor in /media. F-Spot doesn't work (doesn't auto-launch and
doesn't start manually).

I have similar issues with my Canon SD1100. When I connect it, I see the
dialog prompting me to import photos. However, the camera is not
accessible/mountable.

I also have this problem with a digital camera on two different installs
of hardy (desktop/laptop). If what Adam says is true, why were you able
to mount the drives on previous versions of ubuntu?

Yay camera support regresses back to Dapper!!
Seriously anyone know why this is? I am suffering the same problem on my
Canon Powershot A700. I need to mount it to put some custom firmware on
the camera. I assumed something to do with the move from gnome-vfs.. Ah
well.. maybe Intrepid..

Please note if your camera is using MTP than you can only import
pictures and you cannot browse your camera as a usb mass storage and it
won't be mounted.

i get these same issues. (i think it's not device specific)
also this's how the device is mounted:
gphoto2://[usb:004,006]/
i never got that in gutsy...

I've also selected the /desktop/gnome/volume_manager/automount_drives
and /desktop/gnome/volume_manager/automount_media keys.
