That must be fixed upstream and will be in Karmic when the next GNOME
beta is out. I guess different issues are mixed here, but they all come
from the fact that a field is empty: home dir, shell or password. R
I have no password for root, always use sudo, gksu etc.

This seems a duplicate of bug 220697. Reading the reports in that bug,
it seems there that the bug appears when a password is set for root,
which is my case.

Thanks for the test, I haven't had a chance to look in to it yet.
I've attached the test-backends script, I managed to find it, it
requires you to configure the package first. Would you be willing
to run this as well? You may need to install a perl package or
two it seems (I already had them
the testscript mentioned there does not exist anymore, but there's a
script called diagnostics.pl, here is the output, hope that helps

there is a method described for testing the backend
that is used to store the information, which is what
appears to be at fault. Would you be able to try that
test?
