Thanks for your confirmation. This bug has been reported in the past
(bug 146489) and people said that it was fixed in Hardy so it seems that
this bug now does not happen for everyone. Since I can't reproduce this

Can you try to boot your computer without usplash and then try to
suspend to see if this problem is really caused by usplash? You can do
this by following these steps :
1.Press Esc during Grub boot delay to access the boot menu.
2.Select your actual Ubuntu boot line and press "e" to edit it.
And this is true for 8.04 LTS as well.
Other machines work fine.
