Joel VanLaven, happy there's a workaround. reading `man procmailex`, I see all variable assignment examples in procmail 3.24-1ubuntu2 using the backtick notation. I'm not well versed in reading the recipes, but I believe that | (pipe) only works on assignment in action lines. My current thought is
