Sorry, previous post was somewhat erroneous, I experience this behaviour
as soon as I even try using the touchpad, not dependent on the lid,
different bug maybe.

Maybe a bit late, but I got this laptop today, and I can confirm that
this issue remains on alpha _4_ , I will try no. 5 as soon as it is
released ( if only one could fit livecds onto a cdrw... , or get those
darned usb sticks working).

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
1) If you are comfortable
i8042.nomux=1 fixed the issue for me too. But sorry at the moment I have
not enough time to test a current live cd of 8.10.

Booting with i8042.nomux=1 fixes the issue for me. I'll try the livecd
later tonight.

Same here. However a few more details might help...
* Before BIOS update the touchpad was working correctly, but
occasionally would stop working for small periods of time (a known
problem and solved by the A08 BIOS upgrade.)
* Immediately after the upgrade the touchpad worked fine, but at 1/10

I have the same problem with Hardy at the moment. It begins right after login
into gnome.
I already updated the BIOS to A08 (released on 2008-03-19) but it didn't help.
I can't see any pointer problems with Vista. Therefore I assume that this is no
hardware fault.
I have the same system btw.
