I can confirm it affects me also, I recently updated to 6.8.0.51. When
the prompt initially appears I get a "gb" keyboard icon (I have a UK
keyboard), after the screen goes blank and the prompt re-appears, it no
longer has the "gb". I have a Dell Inspiron 13 7348 laptop. Going back
to 6.8.0.49 fixe

I have the exact same issue, and it was driving me crazy. This
description matches 100% with my experience, I've been resorting to edit
the grub line and remove quiet and splash.
One further note, this is happening without an attached USB keyboard.
