The same bug is now present on a completely different DELL model (from
2013), running Linux Mint 22 (cinnamon). This started happening after
the latest kernel update to 6.8-48 a couple of days ago. I believe Mint
is using the same kernels as in 24.04 LTS. If that's so, could it be

I had extensions off, but I also removed them completely and then I re-
logged in. The same issue remains.

Thanks for the extra files. It's possible (actually not uncommon) that
the lock/unlock screen is being broken by a buggy extension so the first
thing to try is to remove all local extensions:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
rm -rf extensions
and then log in again.
