Oh, OK, I reread your comment and I understand what you're saying.
Yeah, I'd prefer to avoid this extra note on all ROMs. I'll forward
this change to Debian as well (although they don't use
ELF_PACKAGE_METADATA), but for now I'll go ahead and upload the fix to
Ubuntu.

Hello Sergio,
I installed the packages from your ppa on an amd64 system and now
OpenSBI was built without prepending a .note.package section. Invoking
U-Boot qemu-riscv64_smode_defconfig with qemu-system-riscv64 works.
Some of the the ROM files like hppa-firmware64.img have ELF format. I
wouldn't
