The issue is NOT present in
- cyrus-imapd_3.8.1-1~bpo12+1 from Debian bookworm-backports
- cyrus-imapd-3.8.3-1 from Debian sid
As far as I can tell, this is an issue with the Ubuntu package and not
with upstream.
