openvpn package and now iam running ubuntu 8.10 anyway.

2.1_rc7 had problems in "tls-remote" parameter handling (and others) due to bad
X509 parameter extraction functions. A package fixing that issue has been
published into hardy-proposed, could you please enable that repository and test
if it fixes your problem ?

by the way. Without any change on my configs, the bug disappears in
Ubuntu 8.10's openvpn package.

I'm having a similar problem. I'm using openvpn 2.1_rc7 386 on the client side
and the tunnel to the openvpn server has a very high latency with frequent
drops in connectivity. Using openvpn 2.0.9 on the same machine with a different
OS works fine.
I'd be happy to post more details / file a new
shaggy: the error you get looks like you don't reach the OpenVPN server
at all. Could you retry without the "local 127.0.0.1" line in your
config ? Providing a "local" will force openvpn to bind only from that
address, possibly preventing your connection to succeed. Without
"local", OpenVPN can bin
It worked for me for a few days, until they yesterday updadet the
openvpn blacklist. Now everything that works with a key is down again. I
can not understand, why a core part of Ubuntu, security, is being
handled so casually. It is entirely impossible to use Ubuntu in a

I'm also having problems with the openvpn package in Hardy. It might be
something to do with the liblzo that it was compiled against. Here's my
openvpn log:
