w/o the gap pinning doesn't work correctly" was the cause of my issue. I
now have gparted 1.5.0 installed. Thank you for responding to my issue.
I now know all about app pinning - something new for me.

Unmet dependencies cause gparted to fail to install
Did you add the override file to correct location
(/etc/apt/preferences.d/)? Don't forget to run 'apt clean' and 'apt
update' changing configuration. Also check your apt-cache policy, post
outputs of 'apt-cache policy gparted gparted-common' and 'apt install
gparted' and also contents of any file
