This is not a bug. The program is functioning as intended and follows the
behavior of at least a couple other image viewers. Gwenview is the same, for
example. Even Firefox. You're welcome to make a feature request of the upstream
project. It might be best to have a discussion about it beforehan
I reported this in 2021 (over 3 versions ago) and the bug has still not been
addressed...
