I used to have troubles with my acer Travelmate until i used the acerhk driver. This driver can be downloaded at http://cakey.de/acerhk/ Then i was able to control the led via following command: echo 1 > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled i also putted "options ipw2200 led=1" in /etc/modprobe.d/ip
