Accepted gnome-shell into noble-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
shell/46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.6 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
Please help us by testing this new package.
Override redirect is a very old X11 concept:
https://www.x.org/releases/X11R7.6/doc/libX11/specs/libX11/libX11.html#Override_Redirect_Flag
But how the appindicator extension uses that for tray icons, Marco can
explain :)

This disables clones for override-redirect windows, and it's not
immediately clear to me what override redirect windows are, and why the
regression potential of that change is limited to tray icons not
appearing at all - are override-redirect windows only used for tray
icons?

And it's still happening in the latest 24.04 beta for many apps that are
in the app indicator.
