Is this actually true for all relevant bloat? Was there ever an
appstream based Ubuntu ISO that didn't have bloat in these or alike
directories, the same as Debian-Live but not Debian-Gnome?

There's still work to be done to reduce duplication of contents between
the layers. Reopening this bug because I'm not sure offhand where else
we're tracking that at the moment.
