In my opinion the problem still exists.
I've installed all the updates available for Hardy Alpha 6 (I haven't
downloaded the Hardy Beta release so it isn't fresh install).

I have the same problem.
When i tried to get a backtrace i was faced to the following problem:
gdb f-spot 2>&1 | tee gdb-f-spot.txt
did not work, since: "/usr/bin/f-spot": not in executable format: File
format not recognized
gdb mono /usr/lib/f-spot/f-spot.exe 2>&1 | tee gdb-f-spot.txt
