It is not possible to backport the 24.10 fix to 24.04 LTS; it involves
updating too many components of the GNOME desktop with too large of
changes. Sorry.

The Test Case I included in the description is being fixed in Ubuntu
24.10 by having nautilus provide the filechooser used by xdg desktop
portals (which is what the Chromium and Firefox snaps use for the
filechooser).

Watching by the forum, as someone proposes a solution, they say it sucks
and do nothing. That's the whole point of open source.
