OK, after reasonably extensive testing, the system seems stable enough
in the dom0 - can't test the domU because of bug 204010
Perhaps a note could be added about this issue to the README.Debian?

Thanks for that, adding swiotlb=128 to the kernel command line seems to
have done the trick, at least for formatting volumes.
Will do some more testing, so far so good though..

The missing xend startup scripts issue has been resolved, unfortunately
the instability hasn't.
