I am using Hardy 64.
I have over 30 themes installed, that I carry over to each Linux install. I
couldn't trace it to any one theme, however it corrected itself after I
started deleting some that I don't use anymore.
If I get the bug again I will attach the xsession-errors.

Thank you for your bug report. What version of Ubuntu do you use? How
many theme are installed? Could you try if that's rather a theme in your
list which is creating the issue? Do you have easy steps to trigger the
issue on a new installation? Could you attach .xsession-errors when
getting the bug?
This bug seems to manifest itself when you have a good number of themes
installed. I deleted a bunch of themes that I don't use and the previews
started working again.
Maybe the Appearance Manager just has a problem when you have a ton of
themes?
