Just to be clear, I totally agree that submitting package information
without the explicit knowledge of the enduser is not right. I hope that
the fix mentionned above will be an acceptable solution until more
extensive reporting can be provided in the user interface.

Fred, the reason why package information is being gathered by a tool
called hwtest (hardware test) is that it is important to correlate
hardware with specific package versions. It's one thing to know that
some hardware works on Hardy, it's another to know with which kernel or
xorg driver for exampl

It would also be useful to see the information before it gets sent, so
there's absolutely no confusion.
I think some kind of expandable tree (GtkTreeView for hwtest-gtk) full
of all the information, followed by a "Submit" and a "Cancel" button
would be appropriate.

This pisses me off!
It is called "hwtest" (hardware test), all questions are related to the
computer hardware.
So you would think it collect only hardware information, but it secretly
collects what packages you have installed. That is spyware!
It is an intrusion on users privacy!
