This patch works for me. I was experiencing the same problems on a new
install of Hardy alpha 6 (sensors-applet was working fine before alpha
5).

I'm also seeing this on AMD64. The problem may be in the libsensors
plugin - removing the /usr/lib/sensors-applet/plugins/liblibsensors.so
file restores normal functionality to sensors-applet.
