As I remember, EasyCodec support was removed from the plugin because
gnome devs thought it was too intrusive ?
Can't find the bugs.gnome.org issue.

I found this bug too. The Totem firefox plugin does not have the easy
codec installation feature that seems to be working for standalone
Totem. It is possible to get the BBC embedded videos to play if you
choose Open with "Movie Player" from the embedded totem's menu, then try
to play the video in
I've not tested this, I'm sort of surprised that
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/EasyCodecInstallation is not implemented for
embedded totem. maybe this bug should be moved to the totem package.
