The one thing all the reporters (including myself) seem to have in common is
that we're all using scim, so I believe that this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scim/+bug/66104
Fortunately, that defect also includes work-around information.

The others don't seem to apply, as this is not a USB or PS2 keyboard but
built-in to the laptop. dmesg doesn't change when it stops working, and
neither do the X logs.
