I'm marking this as won't fix. Upstream decided this default and I don't
see any reasons why we should change it, distribution wise.

a standalone window.

Well, I think own window NO is the desirable thing. I don't think people
want it to run it in its own window.
Also, in 7.10 it ran as overlay, but in 8.04, its in own window. So this
confused me, so I thought it was a bug.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, this isn't a bug, since it's a configurable issue:
Copy the system wide configuration file to your home directory:
$ cp /etc/conky/conky.conf ~/.conkyrc
Open ~/.conkyrc with any editor you like and change
I've done a mistake adding Conky-upstream to this report, sorry for
that. The report was wrongly assigned to launchpad, but instead of
changing to conky (ubuntu) I've added Conky.
