I got some Compiz updates today.
Now the "Show Mouse" plugin apparently works perfectly!
This apparently been fixed! :)

Confirmed occurs as reported. The problem is in compizconfig-settings-
manager, not compiz (the plugin can be enabled with the gconf editor),
editing bug as such.

On further inspection, this may actually be a problem with our compiz-
fusion plugins packaging. According to this page http://wiki.compiz-
fusion.org/Plugins/Mousepoll the mousepoll plugin is required for
showmouse to work. However, mousepoll is not installed by either compiz-
fusion-plugins-main
