I checked on bionic, focal and groovy with a known ICE, and test
compilers from the ubuntu-toolchain-r/test PPA that all backports are
able to reduce to the very same reduced source.
The testsuite run during the build also passes.

possible usage scenarios? Since looking at tests/ I only saw two tests
in there - is there something more?
