I experience the same using the Hardy 8.04.1 liveCD; Alt+F2 orca (or
starting orca from the terminal) must be used in order for the Orca
screen reader to start.
Blind/limited sight users simply cannot be expected to use an 'Alt+F2
orca' option when the base F5, 3 (Screen reader) shows as available
I tried to use Orca Screen Reader following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Accessibility with the Live CD.
The CD is xubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso dated 30-Oct-2008 . I put the CD
in, hit ENTER when the language selection came up, hit F5, 3, ENTER,
