I don't think that still occurs with lucid, I very recently uploaded a
dhcp3 (3.1.3-2ubuntu3) that should make host_name behave properly.
Please reopen if you can still reproduce with that version (when it will
be available).

i'm sorry this didn't get updated. i think i responded to the e-mail
notification.
at any rate, i was using dapper, but i believe it's the same in newer
releases up to gutsy. i haven't checked hardy.
