Latest release of Ubuntu does not work out of box on my Fujitsu-Siemens D
Amilo 1840.
When I tried Ubuntu-beta a couple months ago it had the same symptoms as
described above. I hoped that Ubuntu team would fix it. But problem still
exists and I think it is very important to ignore it.

I had done a completely new install and still it's impossible to boot,
it hangs on the b43legacy driver. Detaching the mini-PCI card I can
safely boot.
Looking at /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist the b43legacy driver is not
blacklisted.

same problem here with compaq nx9110 broadcom 4303...
Shouldn't this bug remain open, as there is no fix, just a workaround yet,
which does not actually provide the intended functionality?

Same problem. Dell Inspiron 8200. I updated to the latest Hardy
available today (4-22). If b43legacy is blacklisted I can boot, but
modprob'ing b43legacy freezes the computer. I don't see how
blacklisting the module can be considered "Fix released" though, since I
cannot use my wireless without
I have done a completely new install with fresh hardy5 ISO, and the boot
hangs at b43legacy loading... so it's not possible to boot.

Hi,
I've done all the tests:
- recompiled 2.6.24.2 (latest kernel cloned from git-ubuntu)
- booted normally: kernel freezes at b43legacy loading
- blacklisted b43legacy: boots fine
- modprobed b43legacy: freezes everything, even magickeys didn't work for
recovery.
Cheers!

Thanks Leann,
I've opened a new report.
Tonight I'm going to recompile the kernel and do the tests you said.
Bye!

Thanks Milo,
Care to open a new bug report regarding your battery issue. It's
helpful to the development teams if the bug reports target one specific
issue. Also just in clase it wasn't clear, the reason your wireless
card isn't showing up anymore is because you've disabled the b43legacy
driver
I will recompile it probably tonight or in the next couple of days.
By the way... I have a problem also with the battery of this laptop
(last kernel with no problem was 2.6.20): it's not detected, it's like
I'm always on AC. ACPI works, if I unplug, the brightness is dimmed, but
no sign of the bat

Also, it looks like the latest hardy git treee head has pulled in some
recent changes for the b43legacy and b43 drivers:

You may want to quickly retest. Thanks.

Hi Milo,
I'm glad to hear you can at least boot your machine now (after diasbling
the config option). Regarding your wireless card not showing up, per
the kernel team's bug policy, can you please attach the following
information. Please be sure to attach each file as a separate
attachment.

Compiling it without b43legacy and rebooting now works fine... the only
problem is that my wireless card doesn't show up anywhere... (it didn't
show up even with -3).

Hi Milo,
How comfortable would you be compiling and booting your own kernel?
I've got a wiki page with instructions that may help a little:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild
The reason I ask is that I was glancing through the kernel changelog
descriptions, https://launchpad.net/ub
Oh... the last kernel working, that I can boot with, is 2.6.24-3, from
-4 up to -7 none of them worked.
