Sorry, this was indeed a hardware issue, my mouse is dead.
I managed to get another Logitech M185 wireless USB mouse and it works
flawlessly. I guess I should've tested my mouse on a computer with a
different OS before making this BR.

Given I've been using the same hardware for a couple of years, I doubt
it is a hardware issue. I know hardware decays over time, but it seems
me much more likely this is due to one of the upgrade that apt installed
just before I had this issue for the first time.
I see from /var/log/apt/history.lo
This looks like a USB kernel issue, if not a hardware issue.
