I see what you mean. Yet, just because some broken functionality is easy
to fix it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be reported. Do you believe
that some bugs in [U(Ku)(Edu)(Xu)]buntu should be left unreported? Do
you believe that instead of being bug-free [U(Ku)(Edu)(Xu)]buntu should
be instead some
It just varies, on my laptop *every* key works, and even a key for web
browser and key for mail client. If funciton keys don't work on your
laptop, you should edit few configuration files, that's all.

A small correction is in order. It seems the sound volume keys work
after all. The thing is that KDE's sound volume visual indicator (the
window showing the graphic of the sound volume level) doesn't appear
anymore.
Still, that isn't a problem related to this bug entry.

I've just installed Kubuntu Dapper and here is the run down on the
laptop keys supporting state:
hotkey, function, Dapper result
Fn+F1, help, none
Fn+F2, setup, none
Fn+F3, power management scheme toggle, none
Fn+F4, sleep, none
Fn+F5, display toggle, not tested
Fn+F6, Screen blank, works as expec
I forgot to mention this. The volume keys (Fn+up/down) worked flawlessly
under Breezy but now it seems they gave up working.

Hello!
I have Fujitsu Siemens Computers Amilo L6825 notebook and every function key
works, including light up/down, sound keys, sleep keys and other. Only synaptic
touchpad doesn't work, but it doesn't matter. The point is that it works, you
just need to enable some options in X configuration.
