The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the

I have had similar problems on the last two header updates. Rather than
the incorrect partitions, however, all (correct) occurrences of (hd2,0)
get replaced by (hd1,0). The Windows partition is not affected. My
(correct) menu.lst is now:

I confirm some users reporting this issue as well as some others after the last
kernel updates. I think this deserves some attention as a small part of users
are issue many problems.
