This is fixed in karmic, but I nominated it for jaunty. The importance
of this bug is low, but the patch ([1]) is only a few lines.

I also have this. when trying to go to a tab with ctrl+pageup/down the
tabs often detach for no reason.

Same here - it's pretty irritating when you're jumping from tab to tab.
I've checked that the "detach tab" keyboard shortcut is disabled - which
it is.

I see this several times a day, but I use the gnome terminal with 10 or
so tabs on a daily basis. I also am seeing the assert message in the
.xsession-errors log.

I'm seeing this too. I can't seem to reproduce it on demand, but
sometimes the tab will detach. I don't select "Detach Tab" from the
menu, and I do not have a keyboard shortcut defined for the action.
I'll add another comment if I can narrow down what action causes this to
happen.
