Actually I don't have the same issue as the original reporter. I can set
any number of workspaces, I just can't switch between them. I guess I
should open a new bug for this.

Sebastien: I can't seem to find the master bug for this problem, could
you tell us what's its number? I have the same issue with Jaunty, nvidia
driver. Only happens when compiz is enabled.
