Its worth noting that upgrading from 18.04 to 19.10 is supported see bug
1497024 for background information.
The AptLog indicates that there was at a minimum a problem with graphics
drivers you have installed from a PPA, although if you only purge that
PPA you may encounter other issues.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has two tested & supported upgrade paths.
(1) Firstly to the next release, ie. Ubuntu 18.10. Closed now because 18.10 is
EOL
(2) Secondly to the next LTS release, once 20.04.1 has been released;
