This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in

with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are

The 18 month support period for Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 has reached its end of life -
http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.10-eol . As a result, we are closing the
linux-source-2.6.22 kernel task. It would be helpful if you could test the

This seem to fix it for me on 7.10.

The same on IBM T22 but there you can use this workaround:
just add the following line to your /etc/modules
apm power_off=1
If you shutdown now it still does not work, but from that time on it does.
Testet with two T22's.
(btw: I added the kernelparameter "acpi=off" and "noapic")

I tested this on the T20 with 8.10-alpha 3, no software updates (yet).
When running the "recovery" boot option, power off works.
But with the normal boot (no options or menu selections) the last lines
show:
* Will now halt
halt: Unable to iterate IDE devices: No such file or directory
[ 2750.069
same problem..
sometimes it even crashes when booting
please fix this for 8.04

Thinkpad T20 also has this problem. Using "acpi=force" as a kernel
parameter does not solve the problem. apm support is not in the kernel,
so I havent tried that.
