Removing the .opera directory fixed this for me. More precisely, just
removing the .opera/widgets directory (which only contained a single 0
byte widgets.dat file) was enough to make Opera 9.27 start up again.

.. you're running Opera 9.25 not 9.5 beta, right? I can get 9.5 beta to
launch, but not 9.25. I have a feeling this might be a misconfiguration
issue on our systems more than it is a 'bug'.
