I worked around this bug by manually downloading iwlwifi-8000C-36.ucode and iwlwifi-8265-36.ucode from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux- firmware.git/ and then installing them in /lib/firmware . Now I have firmware version 36.77d01142.0 and it seemed to solve the issue
