Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug #182498, so it is being marked as such. Please look a
Easy workaround: as root, run "apt-get dist-upgrade". That seems to
have successfully done the upgrade for me.

Same problem here: I installed hardy alpha 3 around 2008-01-13 20:30
+0500, and shortly after first booting and logging in, got the error
described above. My apt.log file ends with the line
ERROR:root:Dist-upgrade failed: 'E:Unable to correct problems, you have
held broken packages.'
